🌿 Behind the Stems

🛠️ Some hands are made for building; others for tending. Diane’s have always done both. She built her career in the quiet hum of telecommunications, weaving light through glass to carry voices, stories, and dreams across the miles. Alongside her husband, she ran a thriving automotive repair shop—sleeves rolled, tools in hand, solving problems one careful turn at a time. Two very different worlds, yet both demanded precision, patience, and an unshakable respect for craft.

🌿 Today, those same hands shape the seasons at Woody Shoots, her specialty perennial foliage and woody cuts farm in Arlington, Washington. Here, she grows for floral designers and event planners who seek stems with soul—each one chosen for its texture, its story, its ability to bring a moment to life.

💚 But Woody Shoots is more than a farm. It is a legacy in bloom—a gift for her granddaughter. Among the rows of foliage and the rhythm of planting and harvest, Diane is teaching her not just how to grow, but how to build: how to read the seasons, how to listen to the land, how to balance beauty with business. Every stem cut, every order filled, every decision made is a lesson in stewardship, creativity, and resilience.

🐸 Her love of growing began in the woods behind her childhood home, where she spent hours catching frogs, watching tadpoles transform, and building forts from branches and moss. That early wonder—of life unfolding quietly, beautifully—still guides her today.

🍲 Diane is a wife who loves cooking from scratch, a mother of two adult children, and a proud grandmother. She nurtures her family the same way she tends her fields—with intention, care, and joy.

📚 She also gives back to her community, volunteering at the Twin City Elementary School Library and the Camano Island Sno-Isle Library, helping children discover stories that spark imagination and curiosity—just as she once did among the trees.

✨ Rooted in the trails, fields, and communities of Arlington, Stanwood, Marysville, Camano Island, Mount Vernon, and Burlington, Diane’s work is an invitation to slow down. To notice the way light catches on a leaf’s edge. To feel the weight of a season in your palm. To remember that beauty, like connection, is something we grow—with intention, with care, and with joy.

What do you grow?

I grow specialty perennial foliage and woody cuts — stems with texture, movement, and a story to tell. Each variety is chosen for its ability to bring depth and soul to a design, whether it’s a bridal bouquet, a ceremony arch, or a single stem in a bud vase. The catalog shifts with the seasons, and every stem is cut to order at its moment of peak beauty.

How do I place an order?

Browse our availability page, then click the available button, or click the contact button below. I’ll confirm availability within 24 hours and reserve your stems for your chosen pickup or delivery date. Every order is a conversation — I’m here to help you find exactly what your design is asking for.

How far ahead should I book?

For weddings and large events, 4–6 weeks gives me time to grow and reserve exactly what you need. For smaller orders, a week’s notice is often enough — though seasonal favorites can disappear quickly when they’re at their best.

Do you offer standing weekly orders?

Yes — many designers reserve a weekly bundle during peak season. It’s a way to keep your workbench stocked with fresh, local product and to design with the rhythm of the fields.

Do you offer custom growing?

Yes. If you have a palette, texture, or mood in mind, I can plant and time crops specifically for your event. Custom growing works best with 3–6 months’ lead time, so the plants have time to mature into their full character.

Is there a minimum order?

No strict minimum, though orders under $50 may be pickup only. Whether you need a handful of special stems or a full event’s worth, I’m happy to grow for you.

What happens if something isn’t available?

Nature has her own rhythms. If a crop underperforms, I’ll reach out right away with thoughtful alternatives that honor your palette and design intent. My goal is to preserve the mood and movement you envisioned.

Do you deliver?

Yes — I deliver within Arlington, Stanwood, Marysville, Camano Island, Mount Vernon, and Burlington. Pickup at the farm is always welcome, and often means you’ll spot something unexpected and beautiful to add to your order.
